+{{:nacho.jpeg?nolink&200 |}} Dr. Nacho Navarro, a widely recognized expert in HPC and Program Chair of this workshop, suddenly died on Sunday, February 28, at the age of 58. Nacho was born and raised in Barcelona, where he studied at UPC and joined the university in 1985 as a lecturer. Since then, he has been very active in the community of high performance computing, becoming an Associate Professor at UPC and the leader of the group on Accelerators for HPC at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). He organized many events at UPC and BSC, and for the HiPEAC network since the very beginning of this European Network of Excellence. Since 2010, he organized the internationally renowned Programming and Tuning Massively Parallel Systems summer school (PUMPS), every July at Barcelona. This summer school was one of the most popular activities of the BSC/UPC NVIDIA CUDA Center of Excellence, which he also managed. Nacho did many scientific contributions during his long career, participating in multiple projects, and since 2001, he was a Visiting Research Professor of the IMPACT group at the Coordinated Science Laboratory at UIUC. We will miss Nacho a lot, but we believe that the organization of this workshop will be a humble tribute to his person.

+From UPC and BSC, we are organizing a homage event for our colleague Nacho. It will be an "in memoriam" event next Friday March 18th, at 15:00, in Vertex building, just after the RoMoL 2016 Workshop. It will consist of many small interventions, with sharings, experiences, anecdotes, we have had with Nacho along all these years. More information can be found here: http://inmemoriam.bsc.es/.
